Head of Data Platform — Insurance Group
Head of Data Platform — Insurance Group
A top-10 UK general insurer is consolidating three legacy data estates following recent M&A activity. They are hiring a Head of Data Platform to lead the build-out of a unified analytics platform that supports actuarial modelling, pricing, and claims intelligence across the group.
The opportunity
This is a foundational hire. You will define the target platform architecture (Snowflake, dbt, Airflow have been provisionally chosen), set the data governance and quality standards, and lead a team that will grow from 12 to around 25 engineers over the next 18 months.
Reporting to the CDO, you will partner closely with the Chief Actuary and Head of Claims. The mandate is broad and the executive sponsorship is genuine.
What you’ll bring
You will have led data platform engineering in a regulated environment — insurance, banking, healthcare, or similar. You understand the realities of working with PII, the constraints of regulatory reporting, and the political dynamics of integrating data estates after M&A.
Technically, you’ll be confident with modern cloud data platforms, comfortable with the dbt / Snowflake / Airflow stack or willing to lead a team that uses it. You don’t need to write code daily but you’ll be able to hold a serious technical conversation.
What’s on offer
£130,000 — £155,000 base, target bonus 25%, LTIP eligibility, private healthcare for self and family, 30 days holiday plus bank. Three days a week in the City office.
