Staff ML Engineer — Healthcare AI Scale-up

A Series B healthcare AI company headquartered in Edinburgh is hiring a Staff ML Engineer. They build diagnostic support models that are deployed in NHS pathology labs across the UK, with regulatory approval in progress for several European markets.

The work

This is a senior individual contributor role focused on the production side of ML — model evaluation in clinical contexts, deployment to regulated environments, ongoing monitoring, and the infrastructure that supports all of it.

You’ll work closely with the research team (15 ML scientists, mostly PhDs from strong CV/medical imaging backgrounds) but your remit is the path from “the research team has a model that works” to “the model is safely deployed and monitored in a clinical setting.” That’s a lot of ground.

What you’ll need

Deep production ML experience, ideally in healthcare or another regulated domain. Strong software engineering fundamentals — this is not a research role. Comfort with the unglamorous parts of ML in production: evaluation frameworks, drift monitoring, deployment governance, audit trails.

You don’t need a clinical background but you’ll need to be willing to learn how pathologists actually work and what they need from the tools they use.

What’s offered

£120,000 — £145,000 base, significant equity (the company has raised well and the cap table is healthy), full benefits, hybrid working from the Edinburgh office (two days a week minimum, more if you want).
