VP Engineering — Climate Tech (Series A)
VP Engineering — Climate Tech (Series A)
A Series A climate-tech start-up is hiring its first VP Engineering. The company builds optimisation software for grid-scale battery storage operators — a small but rapidly growing market — and works with several of the largest battery operators in the UK and Germany.
The context
The founder-CTO is excellent technically but is shifting toward a Chief Scientist role focused on the core optimisation models. The company needs a senior engineering leader to run the engineering function — currently 14 people, growing to 25 over the next 18 months.
You’ll inherit a strong team, a healthy codebase, and a business that is genuinely working. The challenge is scale: customer count is doubling annually, the platform is hitting limits, and the team needs leadership that lets it grow without losing what’s working.
What we need
Senior engineering leadership at a fast-growing technology business. You’ll have run an engineering function of 20+ people through significant growth, ideally in a domain with real technical complexity (we’re cautious about generic SaaS leaders).
You can be hands-on or not — we’d prefer someone who codes occasionally but doesn’t need to. What matters is that you’ve built engineering organisations before and you understand the tradeoffs of scaling them.
Climate or energy domain experience is a strong plus but not required if everything else fits.
Package
£170,000 — £200,000 base, 0.4 to 0.8% equity at Series A terms, full benefits. Three days a week in their King’s Cross office.
